Sandy Thomson Appointed Honorary President of Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Trust

03/07/2026

Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Trust can announce that Sandy Thomson has stepped down from his position as Chairperson and Trustee and has been appointed Honorary President of the Trust.

The honorary position recognises Sandy's exceptional contribution to community football and sports development in Blairgowrie and Rattray over the past two decades, celebrating a legacy that has helped shape the organisation into what it is today.

A long-standing volunteer within the local community, Sandy has dedicated countless hours to organisations including The Boys' Brigade, Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council and Davie Park Sports Association.

In 2006, Sandy became Chairperson of Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Football Club, initially agreeing to serve for just one year. Twenty years later, his commitment, determination and passion have left a lasting impact on the club, the Trust and the wider community.

Throughout his time with the organisation, Sandy played a pivotal role in securing investment and improving facilities for local people. From helping deliver toilet and changing facilities at Piggy Lane to leading the establishment of Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Trust in 2020, his vision has been instrumental in creating opportunities for players, coaches, volunteers and the wider community.

Sandy also helped oversee the transformation of Davie Park into the outstanding community facility it is today. This included the installation of a new synthetic playing surface, extensive groundworks and the delivery of a purpose-built community hub featuring modern changing facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and flexible community spaces that continue to benefit people of all ages.

His leadership also strengthened relationships with organisations including the Scottish Football Association and brought all of the club's teams together under one unified structure, helping create a stronger future for community football in Blairgowrie and Rattray.

While stepping back from the responsibilities of being a Trustee, Sandy will continue to be recognised as Honorary President, reflecting the significant contribution he has made to the Trust and the wider community.

Caitlin Mackenzie, who was appointed Chairperson of Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Trust in April 2026, said:

"On behalf of everyone at the Trust, I would like to thank Sandy for the incredible commitment he has shown over the past two decades. The facilities, opportunities and organisation we have today are, in no small part, thanks to his determination, resilience and vision.

"Sandy has dedicated an enormous amount of time to community football and has helped create opportunities that will continue to benefit generations to come. We are delighted to recognise that contribution through his appointment as Honorary President.

"As we look ahead to the next chapter for the Trust, we do so with a huge amount of respect for everything Sandy has helped build. We look forward to continuing to grow participation, strengthen our community impact and build on the strong foundations that have been put in place."

Everyone at Blairgowrie & Rattray Community Football Trust would like to thank Sandy for his years of dedicated service and congratulate him on his appointment as Honorary President.
